In just about eight days, a couple hundred homeschoolers will come together for great learning experiences and much merriment. Join us! Nearly all of our classes still have some openings, including all three levels of TAE KWON DO. (We’ve added a new class just for kids aged 5-7 that has a couple of spots
Most classes are 50-minutes long and meet for 12 weeks. Tuition is typically $80 for the entire semester. Some classes have additional charges for class fees or textbooks. Tuition may be higher for classes that meet for extended periods. You can find a complete list of classes and all our registrations materials at www.omahahomeschool.com.
I’d like to highlight a few classes:
ART: We offer several art classes. Our general art class is divided into 6-10 yr olds and 10 and older. Students use a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, including various media from pencil, charcoal, color pencils and pastels (chalk) to water color and acrylics. Art history and styles will be included, focus on American artists (Grandma Moses, Mary Cassatt and James Audubon to name a few) and discussing the different styles and techniques that changed or developed over time.
ACT TEST PREPARATION (suggested ages 13-18) has become standard for high achieving students because so many scholarships incorporate standardized test scores. I also believe that it is the most essential factor in college admission: yes, they will look at your entire transcript, but it’s much harder to deny admission to someone whose ACT score is above their average incoming freshman. This class is packed with tips, strategies, and plenty of essential English, math, reading, and science review. Students will gain a competitive advantage by becoming familiar with the test’s format, learn tips that will turn complex algebra problems into simple arithmetic, and ease reading comprehension and science reasoning problems by zeroing in on main ideas, topic sentences, and key words.
EXPLORING NARNIA (suggested ages 9-11): From Beaversdam to Cair Paravel, the world of Narnia has beckoned to children for generations. Join us as we discover all the riches of C.S. Lewis’ The Magician’s Nephew. Exploring Narnia will focus on the wonderful story itself, but will also enhance primary comprehension skills using techniques such as story mapping, vocabulary, cause and effect, character descriptions, alternate endings, compare and contrast, and Venn Diagrams.
BEGINNER’S MACHINE SEWING (8-Adult) Learn the rewarding, life-long skill of sewing! If you always wanted to learn sewing but didn't know where to begin, here is the class for you. Boys are welcome, as well. The intent of these classes is to take beginners and get them started on the road to being independent sewers. Students will learn how to select fabric, read a pattern, hem, and complete four projects such as poncho (or vest for boys), pillow case, simple skirt, simple shorts or pajama pants.
