The Omaha World-Herald is asking your help in our annual effort to identify outstanding students.
The newspaper names students to three regional All Academic teams in Nebraska: a metropolitan Omaha team, an eastern Nebraska team and a west-central team. A 12-member first team and a 12-member second team are chosen in each region. From the 36 first-team members, a nine-member All State Academic Team is selected.
All students who qualify for nomination earn at least Honorable Mention recognition and their photos will be published in The World-Herald. The gallery of Honorable Mentions will be part of a special section to appear Sunday, May 30. That section also will salute the members of the All State Team and the Regional First and Second Teams.
New this year: You will be notified by March 26 if you have a student named to the All State Team or to a First or Second Regional Team. All awards will be delivered to your school by Friday, April 23, for presentation at your honors events.
The postmark deadlines for Academic Team nominations are:

Deadlines

Criteria for nomination
¨ Every Nebraska and southwest Iowa school is eligible for two nominees – the two highest ranked students in the senior class – regardless of test score. (Note: If a tie means your school has more than two, you must decide whom to nominate. You may use your own criteria.)
AND, in addition
¨ All other seniors who score at least a 32 on the ACT or at least 2080 on the SAT qualify for nomination. There is no limit on the number of additional students your school can nominate as long as the test score criteria is met.
Photos
¨ Photos will be published as a head and shoulders shot of the student. If the student has more than one pose available, send the one that will work best in that format.
¨ Photos can be sent with the application form in the mail or separately as a digital photo via e-mail. In either case, they must be clearly labeled with the student’s name.
¨ Digital photos can be in jpeg or tif format.
To receive these forms electronically, contact Jane Stueve at academic@owh.com.
Note: You will need to have an updated Adobe Reader (version 9) installed to be able to save information on the form
Notes on completing the nomination form:
¨ A student may prepare the nomination form but it must be reviewed and submitted by the school principal or guidance counselor. This person must be noted on page 1 of the nomination form.
¨ On page 2, note whether the student took the AP exam. If yes, indicate when by checking junior or senior year or both.
¨ On page 3, section 4, it is important to indicate the student’s level of involvement. Note leadership role, such as officer, delegate, etc., and detail awards received.
¨ On page 4, add an asterisk (*) behind the course grade if student received college credit for the course.
