The Kent Bellows Studio is currently taking applications for the summer high-school artist mentoring program. Applications are due by April 14th.
The Kent Bellows Studio is a space devoted to sparking creativity! We are an innovative nonprofit supporting young people as they become creative thinkers, decision-makers, and problem-solvers, encouraging them take their skills and make a positive change in the world.
Who is Kent Bellows?
Kent Bellows was an artist who lived in Omaha. His style is known as meticulous realism – his drawings are as realistic as photographs. After Kent passed away in 2005, his family formed The Kent Bellows Studio and Center for Visual Arts. Today, we’re inspired by Kent because he found his own creative spark and life worked as a mentor to help others do the same.
What will the Mentoring Programs be like?
Our Programs are designed to provide the freedom and support that all artists deserve. Students will investigate other artists, experiment with various media, and research topics that are meaningful to them. Students also write about, discuss, and visually document their art to develop their professional expertise as well as an outstanding portfolio.
Who are the Mentors?
Mentors are professional artists, curators, and art teachers. They want to show you what they know, plus help you find and display the things that make you a unique artist and person.
Who can participate in the Mentoring Programs?
Participants in the Mentoring Programs should be:
1) A high school student (or a recent graduate).
2) Excited about being creative and making art.
3) Able to commit to being in class twice a week for the entire semester.
*If you are unable to commit to all dates of the Mentoring Programs, you should consider taking part in our Workshops on Saturdays.
Where are the Mentoring Programs?
Currently, our studio classroom is in the Bemis Underground at the Bemis Center located at 724 S. 12th Street in Omaha’s Old Market.
We believe in making our extraordinary Mentoring Programs accessible to everyone. Costs of The Kent Bellows Studio Programs have been placed on a sliding scale. Personally significant
donations from students and their families range from $1.00-$600.00. All supplies are included.
