Providential History Festival at Liberty Christian
Center
Greetings,
Our church in Omaha is hosting an event that is open to
all
homeschoolers in the area. It is a Providential History
Festival where
entrants can do a speech, drama, table display, etc. We
have secured a
great venue, the Liberty Christian Center, for Friday May
30.
Last fall our inaugural event was a great success. It was
titled,
"Passion to the Present" and featured projects
covering Lady Jane Grey,
the Siege of Malta, Patrick of Ireland, the Continental
Congress, Molly
Bannaky, William of Orange, John Paul Jones, and the Heavy
Plow. As
you can see, there was great variety and we all learned
a lot.
For the spring event we are dealing with "Creation
to the Cross", which
covers quite a bit of history including the entire Old Testament
and
the earthly ministry of Jesus.
This is an exciting opportunity and we want the whole region
to know
about it. There is no fee to attend or participate.

We are planning our Annual Youth Fishing Day at Wherspahn
Lake (Chalco Hills Rec Area) on Saturday July 12th.
Times are TBD, but probably afternoon from like 1:00-4:00...
Please let me know if your group has an interest in participating
and approximately how many. We will have a pre-registration
period starting in probably May so we have an accurate head
count for the actual event.

ART CLASS OPPORTUNITY IN GRETNA
Jeanette McFarling teaches art out of her home in Gretna.
She has been teaching art for over 30 years and comes highly
recommended! She recently contacted me and would like to
work with homeschoolers in our area. If this goes well,
we may be able to continue the class in the fall or winter.
The details of the class are listed below.
How the class will work
Jeanette uses basic principles of art and prefers teaching
"realistic" art. She also enjoys working from
nature. Jeanette will assign each child their own project
for the art class. In this way, the children do not compare
themselves to others in the class. She has asked that each
of the children bring a sample of previous work.
Time & Date
Classes will start the first week in June and will continue
for 8 weeks.
You can choose to attend either a Monday or Wednesday session.
Class length will be one hour (if longer time is needed,
she will let us know)
She would like to start the classes around 1pm (if that
is a problem, we might have some flexibility there)
Cost
The weekly cost is $10 per session, which is a GREAT deal
(usually it is $17).
If you cannot make it to class, she will work with you to
make it up.
There will be a small art supply fee for the class (I.e.
$5)
Class Size & Age Recommendations
Each class size is limited to 8 kids, so we can have a total
of 16 kids sign up (8 for Monday and 8 for Wednesday). If
there is more interest than that, I am sure we can add another
class.
Age recommendation is from about 2nd grade (or 7 years old)
to Highschool and even Adults. Moms are welcome to register
as well. All age levels will be together.
Location
Lessons will be held at her home in Gretna in the Plum Creek
development - 11890 S. 219th Ave

The Knights Debate Club
The Knights Debate Club Omaha-Council Bluffs and sixty
home schooled debate students participating in the first
annual BLAST Christian Home School Debate Tournament need
your help.
This tournament is scheduled to take place this coming
Friday and Saturday April 10 and 11 in Bellevue, Nebraska.
In order for the tournament to take place there is a great
need for volunteer judges.
Because so many of the participants are coming from out
of town and out of state, it has been difficult to personally
contact potential judges. We are still far from registering
enough judges to fill the 170 judging slots required to
hold this tournament.
Would you please prayerfully consider how God could use
you in making this tournament possible? Would you or someone
you know be willing to donate 2 ½ hours on either
Friday, April 10 or Saturday, April 11? Friends, neighbors,
co-workers, pastors, parents, grandparents and home school
graduates at least 18 yrs. old make great judges. The debaters
need your help and would appreciate your passing this information
on to anyone who might be willing to judge. (To register
to judge go to www.homeschool-life.com/ne/cnn.)
This tournament is sanctioned by the NCFCA, the National
Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA),
a national home school organization, which was formed under
the belief “that formal speech and debate can provide
a means for home schooled students to learn and exercise
analytical and oratorical skills, addressing life issues
from a Biblical worldview in a manner that glorifies God.”
(www.ncfca.org) The
BLAST tournament will be used to qualify debate teams for
the NCFCA Region V tournament to be held in Springfield
Missouri later this month. Teams that qualify during that
tournament will be eligible to go on to the national tournament
in June. The students taking part in this tournament truly
appreciate any help you are able to provide in making The
BLAST possible.
