Trinity Christian School Spring Festival

Music Division
Junior High

Purpose
To offer students the opportunity to demonstrate their musical skills in a public performance.

1. Selection
Challenging and appropriate music must be used. All aspects of music selected should be acceptable to Christian standards.

2. Categories
a. Solo
b. Duet
c. Trio
d. Quartet
e. Ensemble (5-16 members)
f. Choir or Band (17 or more members)
**There is no Piano category at this Festival**

3. Category Requirements
a. Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet, Ensemble: One Selection
b. Choir or Band: Two Selections

4. Entry Limits Per School
a. Bands: 3 Junior High
b. Choirs 3 Junior High
c. Instrumental Ensembles: 3 Junior High
d. Vocal Ensembles: 3 Junior High
e. Instrumental Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet: 10 Junior High
f. Vocal Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet: 10 Junior High

5. Entry Fees:
a. Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet: $ 4.00 per student per event
b. Ensemble: $16.00 per ensemble
c. Choir, Band: $30.00 per Choir or Band

6. Entry Forms:
a. A form for each entry must be submitted. Please use only the forms provided. Be sure to include first and last names of entrants. Forms should be mailed with the entry fee to: Debbie Nordstrom by March 11. Each participant should complete a general entry form as well as the specific participation form that pertains to their event.

7. Accompanists
a. Participants shall provide their own accompanists.
b. No recorded or amplified accompaniment is permitted.

8. Memorization
a. All instrumental entries may use music.
b. Adjudicators shall disqualify all Vocal entries for First Ratings when the participants use musical scores in their performances.

9. Adjudicator’s Copy of Music Score
a. Choirs, Bands and Ensembles:
Provide three (3) original copies of each piece.
b. Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet:
Provide one original copy of the music.
c. Copies must not violate copyright law. The adjudicators will disqualify the performance for a First Rating if they are given photocopied music.
d. All music should be labeled with the school name so it can be easily sorted and returned to the correct school.
E. All measures must be marked/numbered for the judges.

10. Introductions
Before beginning the performance, the director or a student shall announce the following:
a. Group or individual name
b. Title of selection(s)
c. Composer(s)

11. Ratings
a. Music groups will be rated and evaluated individually and on a non-competitive basis.
b. Each selection by a group will be judged individually with a composite score determining the final rating.
c. Ratings will be posted as soon as they are available.

12. Schedule
Participants must follow the schedule of performances on the day of the meet. Performers that arrive late to their event may be disqualified.

13. Performance Rooms
Each performance room should have no more spectators than those that can be seated in the chairs provided. If all of the chairs are taken, please wait in the hall until a chair is available. It is too overwhelming to the young performers when the room is overcrowded.

14. Homeroom / Warm-up Room
Each school will be assigned one room which will serve as both your homeroom and warm-up room. Since there will be no piano or keyboard in this room, you are encouraged to bring a keyboard to use for warming up. There must be at least one adult in this room at all times. Please clean up before you leave and see that the room is arranged just as you found it.
