DiAnna Schimek of Lincoln introduced LEGISLATIVE BILL 1141
on January 23rd. HSLDA is referring to LB1141 as The Worst
Bill in Recent History To Restrict Homeschool Freedom.
Officially stated, LB1141 is: “A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to schools; to amend section 79-1601, Reissue Revised
Statutes of Nebraska; to provide for evaluation of students
in schools which elect not to meet state accreditation or
approval requirements; to harmonize provision; and to repeal
the original section.
This bill represents an intrusion into our freedoms to home
educate our children.
It is reported to include provisions for:
- standardized testing with Nebraska Department of Education
oversight
- certified teacher oversight
- home visits from your school district
- school work/project portfolio review
- lesson plan review
