By Mary Griffith

Reviewed by Kelly Benedict

From Preschool to High School, A Parent’s Guide to: *Making the decision *Discovering your child’s learning style
*Getting started *Creating an effective study program *And much, much more!

If you are thinking of homeschooling, and still have questions or concerns that you’d like to have answered before you take the plunge, then this is a book worth reading. Geared toward helping you make an informed decision, this book covers an array of topics beginning with “What do we tell the grandparents?” to local and state regulations, finding learning resources, and detailed learning ideas for the primary, middle and teen years.

One question often asked by those who are considering homeschooling is, “What does it cost?” Well Chapter 5 of this book is titled “Money and Other Practical Matters.” It covers possible costs; depending on which of the many routes you take- textbook wise, consumables, video curriculums, homeschool vs. private school or public schools, and so forth. It covers the fact that most home schooling families are Single-Income families and money is an option to most everyone in one way or another. It covers practical ideas such as using your local library, Internet resources that are available, cooping with other families to teach each other’s children, etc.

Chapter 13 of this book also covers something that is of importance to many who want to home school, and that is, “What if my child has learning and physical disabilities?” “Can I still home school them?” Well yes, you can! This chapter will help you find valuable information about how he learns, what methods or activities would be most helpful, encouragement to accept the limitations that your child may have, and just what options are out there.

As this book states, “Whether you’re one of the nearly one million families in the country already homeschooling, planning to take the plunge, or just testing the water, this hands-on book will help!”
